MEET THE TEAM

Career Snapshot
The Warehouse Group is the first retail company I have worked for, although I’ve always liked to think that a career in IT means you can practice your craft and enjoy working in a variety of industries.
Since graduating from Auckland University I have always worked in data, starting as a business intelligence consultant and eventually leading BI teams. More recently I grabbed the opportunity to become an automation engineer and now lead the automation function at TWG.
Day in the Life
A typical day is a mix of focused technical development time and project delivery, both my own projects and others in the team.
Sometimes those days are more heavily development-focused where on a good day you finish with a strong sense of achievement.
On other days the most rewarding interactions can be talking to users about new automation opportunities – often we get a very enthusiastic response when we identify ways to make people’s jobs easier!
Best part of the your role
Since switching from a full time management role to a hybrid technical one, I’ve really enjoyed the creativity that comes from development – in our case software automation. To be able to identify an opportunity to improve the business, and then deliver the solution, often at large scale, gives a real sense of accomplishment.
Why TWG
There is something about TWG that makes me enjoy coming to work each day. From our corporate values through to the people, this is a place that allows you the freedom to be yourself.
Words of Wisdom
Encouraging people to take ownership is always my mantra. Involve yourself in the business and look for opportunities to make it better. Don’t expect others to fully utilize your skills and abilities – if you back yourself to deliver value to the business it will be personally rewarding and good for your career.
What is your favourite benefit?
The location in Northcote is a big one for me. Of course the free parking but also the incredible views over the harbour to the city and the bush walk around Tuff Crater that you can do for quiet contemplation; or a run if you’re feeling energetic.
