I’ve been with The Warehouse now going on to my nineth year - This still remains my first retail role. Over the years I’ve worked at two stores (Motueka and Lunn Ave) and helped out in numerous others, across the North and South Islands. I started, as many do, as a Christmas casual, then branched out to work in most departments in TWL until now, where I am shop floor team member at the Motueka store.
Day in the Life
Most of my time is spent on the floor amongst team and customers, ensuring both are supported with what they need. My administrative tasks include assisting with rosters, community fundraisers, store initiatives and health, safety and wellbeing.
Why do you love working with The Warehouse Group?
It's a blessing to be able to work with an amazing and supportive team, no matter what store you work at. Great people are often the reason why you stay at a place and that hasn’t changed for me over the years. There are many people across the business I consider wonderful friends and they keep me committed to TWG. Another is the fact that of all the retailers, The Warehouse is ironically the most Kiwi one around. Call me patriotic but I like a business that still has its roots here in Aotearoa.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to do what you do?
Be committed to succeeding and undergoing challenges. For many The Warehouse is a good place to work if you’re starting out in the world of retail or trying to find your place in the world. There are a lot of life lessons one can learn from working at The Warehouse, and many great people you will meet will end up inspiring you.
Describe the culture and environment at TWG.
Incredibly welcoming, especially when I started as a nervous new starter. TWG is incredibly diverse, supportive and is a great place to meet some neat people.
Why do you love working in the retail industry?
You build great relationships with people, both in the teams across TWG and our customers. I love those moments when you can connect to random people at the checkouts or in the break room or even just walking our shop floor. More so, its a neat feeling to be able to make someone's day through great service.
What is your favourite TWG benefit?
It doesn’t hurt to have a team card to get a cheeky discount across TWG brands.
