We’re looking for a hands-on Regional Health, Safety & Wellbeing Business Partner who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment and enjoys working side-by-side with store leaders to make safety practical, relevant and part of everyday work.
This role is about influence, relationships and culture, not box-ticking. If you can walk the talk, explain the why behind safety decisions, adapt to changing priorities, and coach leaders to lift safety outcomes across retail, this could be the role for you.
Job Description
About the role
Partnering closely with our retail leadership teams, you’ll bring a strong health, safety and wellbeing lens that balances risk, people and commercial realities. You’ll support stores to find solutions that work on the shop floor, embedding good practice, strengthening capability and lifting safety culture across the network.
This is not a purely desk-based or purely compliance role. You’ll be visible in stores, approachable, and focused on enabling safe outcomes that make sense for retail operations.
What you’ll be doing
- Partnering with retail leaders and store teams to improve health, safety and wellbeing outcomes.
- Supporting delivery of retail HSW plans and key safety initiatives.
- Coaching leaders to promote safe behaviours and build strong safety capability.
- Leading incident and near-miss reporting, investigations and follow-up actions.
- Conducting store visits, workplace inspections, hazard identification and risk assessments.
- Championing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contributing to wellbeing initiatives and injury management support.
- Helping make HSW relatable, practical and embedded in everyday retail activity.
Full-time role (40 hours per week) and will require regular travel to stores within your region.
Qualifications
You’ll likely bring
- A hands-on, operational mindset and comfort working in busy retail environments.
- Strong relationship-building skills and high emotional intelligence.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain the why behind safety decisions.
- A practical, solution-focused approach (not overly compliance-driven).
- Confidence working independently with a strong, credible presence.
- Experience coaching, mentoring and influencing leaders.
Experience & qualifications
Essential
- Strong technical background in Health & Safety.
- Formal H&S qualifications (Level 4–6).
- ICAM investigation training (preferred)
- Registration with a professional body i.e. NZISM, HASANZ, NZSC.
Desirable
- Accreditation with a professional body i.e. NZISM, HASANZ, NZSC.
- Qualifications/experience in specialist fields i.e. hazardous substances, traffic management, auditing, risk management, incident investigation, ACC AEP standards/injury management, emergency preparedness, digital tools/data analysis etc
