We are seeking an experienced and skilled Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to join our Legal Team whose purpose is to provide legal thought leadership and advice to safeguard The Warehouse Group while enabling it to thrive.
Job Description
The Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel will primarily advise on commercial contracts, including:
- Drafting and supporting negotiations on a wide range of commercial contracts, including in relation to IT, trade buying, IP licensing and logistics/supply chain
- Working with stakeholders across the business to understand needs, articulate risk and translate these into appropriately drafted contracts and legal advice
The LC/SLC will also be prepared to drive legal operating model improvements, and upskill and provide support on a range of other legal matters, in particular corporate governance, and also dispute resolution and property matters.
There will be lots of variety in this role and plenty of opportunity to work collaboratively with different areas across the business.
This role can be full time or part-time 4-5 days per week with a flexible up to 2 days work-from-home hybrid environment.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you’ll have:
- Law degree (LLB or equivalent) and current practicing certificate to practice law in New Zealand.
- 5-10 years of post-qualification experience, with a combination of private practice and/or in-house experience.
- Experience in drafting and supporting on negotiation of a wide range of commercial contracts.
- Able to engage confidently with stakeholders across the business and manage matters independently.
- A keenness to assist in the development and implementation of internal procedures / best practices to improve engagement with the legal team.
- Openness to upskill and support other legal team members on corporate governance, property and dispute resolution matters.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills - presenting information in a clear, commercial and succinct style.
- Able to establish and develop effective working relationships with peers, managers and staff.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, delivering effective results to deadlines.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills - thinks pragmatically and laterally.
