Senior Shopper Insight Analyst

We are New Zealand’s largest retail business, employing over 12,000 people across The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Noel Leeming and Torpedo7.  We are creating a world-class Insights and Data Science team to support the growth of our brands. 

By joining our growing Insights and Data Science team, you will leverage one of the richest customer and sales data sets in New Zealand to create compelling, impactful and actionable insights for all our brands.  This is a greenfields role so lots of scope for you to make your mark! 

The Role

Reporting into our Shopper Insights Manager, you will essentially lead the review of Major Trading Events, identifying opportunities for growth and setting targets and KPIs, along with playing a key role in category reviews.  All with the aim of arming the business with insights that will result in better decision making and increased sales.

This role will see you liaise and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders; from our merchandise team, Data Science, Brand Insight, Loyalty, operations through to our Insight agencies.  Key accountabilities will include:

  • Major Trading Events - Lead the review of our major Trading Events across our brands, coordinating a cross functional summary of performance and opportunities, own our understanding of customer mindsets and help us identify opportunities to create brand differentiation by tapping into different customer needs at different times of the year, bring to life the mindsets in a way that inspires marketing and merchandising to create propositions, marketing and communication based on these propositions

  • Category Reviews - Lead the input of shopper understanding into our range review process, partner with the Merchandising and Planning teams to ensure that the Brand Jobs to Do are translated into their category plans, set Shopper metric targets and track performance over time

  • Support Merchandising Optimisation Projects - Participate in merchandising optimisation projects, leverage the data, insight and science that we have in the business to ensure we are delivering the best solutions for optimisation


About You

You are passionate about finding all the ways data can be used to provide business insights that are relevant, digestible and actionable. 

  • 3-5 years’ experience in category management analytics at a major syndicated data provider, or retailer
  • Track record of delivering excellence
  • Ability to work cross-functionally – educating, influencing and collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in the following technologies would be an advantage: Linux, Teradata, SQL Server, R, tableau/microstrategy
