I’m lucky enough to do what I love in my role with The Warehouse Group (TWG). That is, art directing for our print development, and talking to our graphic designers. I particularly love trend research and spending creative time with my team. The people on my team are the best – so talented and creative.
I’ve worked in fashion and retail since I was 18, and that’s 15 years altogether. I studied fashion design, worked in fashion companies and won design awards. I had my own fashion design business in Australia for 10 years, and then came back to New Zealand.
I’m now happy to be working with TWG, where the training and development opportunities are exceptional. I loved attending the Design Thinking Summit – a chance for me to learn and develop myself further as a designer.
The changing face of retail
The pace of change in retail is breath-taking – there’s so much exciting new stuff happening. Technology is revolutionising the shopping experience and we have to move fast to keep up.
It’s great that TWG has a proactive approach to innovation. We are lucky to have a new CEO, Nick Grayston. I am excited to see where his forward-thinking approach can lead the company. That gives me confidence and excites me about the potential of where we can be in the future.
Why join us?
A career in retail is definitely a good way to go. There are so many aspects to retail now, and TWG is a strong and established New Zealand company with a great value structure. Their focus is on their people, and providing them with the encouragement to be the best they can be.
The people you work with and the opportunities you’ll have, especially in learning and development, will enrich your role. You’ll be proud that you’re working hard at being sustainable, promoting recycling and ethical sourcing in all your products – that’s a big plus.
If you are into the arts, your challenge will be managing and balancing the creative and the commercial aspects of retail. Fine tune your skills as a designer so you can build a career, and make a difference to New Zealand, by providing a well-designed product offering that can improve peoples’ lives on a day to day basis.
