With a brief as guide, I develop concepts and make contact with buyers and licensors. Then my team takes the design through to strike-off, approval and processing stage.
Compared to some, I’m new at retail with just three years’ experience and already I know what my favourite part is – seeing the digital concepts get made into physical products.
I’ve also really enjoyed building a strong bond with The Warehouse Group (TWG) license teams and overseas licensors, and being given the opportunity to grow personally and become a more complex designer.
The changing face of retail
The advance of technology means the future of retail is mysterious, which makes it exciting. Kind of like riding a bike into a tunnel blindfolded. That would make some people afraid, but I think it challenges my senses and my abilities.
My day-to-day role is like that – infinite variety. I’m interested to see what sort of bargain the future has to offer – probably very like what it is already, fast-paced, but very technical, in almost every corner. TWL and The Warehouse Group are doing everything possible to keep up, with digital technologies that let people shop the way they want to, and certainly makes my design role easier and faster.
