Ged Taylor

    GM Commercial

My day starts with a review of the previous day’s sales, taking note of any anomalies. During the early part of the week I attend various meetings, and discuss work in progress with the wider team. Towards the end of the week, I aim to get out into the network to visit clients and suppliers.
I have worked in retail for 33 years, primarily in UK Supermarkets. For the last 10 years I have worked in New Zealand, five of which have been with Noel Leeming. I get a real buzz working with people, meeting clients, and identifying new business opportunities. The best part is coaching the team and working to enable them to be the best they can be. Seeing them grow and develop, and be successful in their own right is rewarding.
The culture at Noel Leeming is fantastic, and for the past five years I can honestly say that I have looked forward to coming to work every day. Tim Edwards our CEO is one of the best in the business. I am extremely proud and humble to be part of such a great team. Growing the business from $80m to $250m in five years, to 30% of the total business, and being appointed to the lead team as GM Commercial in recognition of that – these are highlights of my career.

    The changing face of retail

We are entering a new digital world where personalisation and service is key to success in retail. Customers are more demanding than ever, and it is a real challenge to keep them engaged with the products and services that we offer.
At Noel Leeming, and throughout The Warehouse Group (TWG) generally, we are developing a Complementary Services proposition that will put us streets ahead of the competition. We are embracing the new digital era, and we aim to be at the forefront of retail in New Zealand, delivering exceptional services as well as products to our customers.

    Why join us?

If you’re thinking of taking on a career in retail, I say go for it. This company is all about relationships, and if you have strong commercial acumen, good leadership skills and like being around other people, then you can’t go wrong.
The culture is excellent at Noel Leeming and across TWG. It’s a very can-do organisation, led by people who are driven by success and who recognise the value of their people. It’s about encouraging ambition and providing team members pathways for growth and advancement.
I would describe the leadership philosophy as getting things done willingly and well through people. We call our people passionate experts, focused on delivering the best customer experience possible.
Work hard, listen and understand the customer. Always strive to be the best you can be – and you will shine through.
